Money Saving Driving & Auto Maintenance Tips
Businesses are opening again and people starting to commute to work and plan weekend drives and road trips.
Here are some driving tips to help you save money on automobile expenses.
1. Plan your trip ahead of time
There are many apps that give driving tips on the shortest route to your destination. There are also apps that show the cheapest gas stations in the route or area.
2. Choose the right time for filling up the tank
Done wait till the last minute to fill up and take advantage of the best gas prices. Also, make it a money-saving habit to buy gas during the early or late hours of the day with cooler temperatures. Gas is denser during these periods. You will get less gas in hot temperatures.
3. Avoid driving during the rush hour.
This will save you time, money, and unnecessary stress.
4. Don’t put “the pedal to the metal”
Accelerating too hard increases your fuel consumption. Lightly pressing the accelerator pedal is a good money-saving practice.
5. Check your tires regularly
Over or under-inflated tires tend to wear out faster. This also wastes a lot of gas. Proper inflation decreases friction, resulting in better gas mileage.
6. Avoid slamming on the brakes
Speeding and then slamming on the brakes puts a lot of stress on your brakes and tires, which will increase expenses for repair and maintenance. Try to maintain a reasonable speed and start slowing down as you get close to red light.
7. Check the car filters
Car filters tend to wear out easily especially if you live in a dusty area. Check them from time to time. A clean filter increases performance and fuel efficiency.
8. Use the right type of motor oil
Change your engine oil on a regular basis and only use the right type/grade of oil. Using the wrong type of oil can affect engine performance and fuel consumption.
9. Check and maintain fluid levels
Check all fluid levels and make sure there are replaced in a timely manner
10. Tune your engine
Your car engine needs to be tuned on a regular basis. A well-maintained engine performs better and consumes less fuel. If your last tune-up was a long time ago, it’s high time to schedule one.
